Roaring for the new Theatre

Published on 17 Jun 2024

Andrew Miller from Roar Coaching is proud to be from Hamilton and the Waikato, so he is looking forward to the city and region taking the next step up with the opening of the new Waikato Regional Theatre.

Roar Coaching describes itself as “just a crew of down to earth, real AF, no BS humans on a mission to connect people to the skills, resources, and relationships they need to ‘smash-it’ in the areas that really matter to them”.

Recognising that spirit in the Theatre project is one of the reasons Andrew and Roar have been steadily donating to the Share the Stage fundraising campaign since its early days, which sees them included in its Business Collective Support scheme.

“I have a sense of pride in this town and its business community, and we’re seeing what we can achieve together with the Theatre,” says Andrew.

‘Disrupting the edges’ is what Roar Coaching is all about. So as a coach of leaders and high-performance teams, Andrew recognises that being pushed out of your comfort zone by the experience of being in a live performance builds confidence and decisiveness that empowers people in every other past of their life.

That’s why he auditioned and performed in the company of a Hamilton Operatic production of Les Misérables a few years back.

“There’s real depth to what it means to get up on stage in front of an audience, so many different strands that make it a powerful thing to do.

“Everyone should have that opportunity. It is always great to see the young people of Waikato having the courage to get up on stage, whether its kapa haka or a musical.

“Spaces to express yourself need encouraging. That’s why I support the Theatre project, as it will help our region’s teens to fulfill their potential.”

Andrew is also looking forward to the Waikato’s new ‘main stage’ drawing in people from across the upper North Island.

“The Theatre is going to broaden the local audience for live shows. You won’t have to go to Auckland to see the most popular performances, and it will be great to see Aucklanders coming down here instead.

“It is all about the relationship between the audience and the performer, what you can’t get from a screen, you create a moment together.”

If your business would like a piece of the theatrical action, please consider following the example of local firms like Roar Coaching, ACLX, Thomson’s ITM and New World Rototuna by joining the Business Collective Support for the Waikato Regional Theatre.
