The Theatre site seen from KPMG building over three years

Published on 28 Feb 2025

Here are photos of the Waikato Regional Theatre site from February 2022 to February 2025. Most are from the early days as the Hamilton Hotel was being de-constructed behind its façade, or from recent times as the structure has been visible, as work was hidden from this view during most of 2023.

3 February 2022 - scaffolding in place for Hotel roof encapsulation.

8 February 2022 - Hotel roof encapsulated for asbestos removal.

28 April 2022 - Hotel roof is stripped of tiles.

16 June 2022 - Hotel roof rafters are gone.

30 August 2022 - only the façade remains from the Hotel.

5 December 2022 - first crane is up.

19 December 2022 - second crane is assembled.

21 December 2022 - second crane is in place.

28 June 2023 - construction appears on the left as it reaches street level.

19 February 2024 - first pillars appear on the left.

6 May 2024 - steelwork reaches the top of the façade.

1 August 2024 - the shape of the auditorium becomes apparent.

19 August 2024 - the Theatre's roof structure starts to be installed.

8 October 2024 - the frame of the fly tower is being assembled.

13 December 2024 - the full structure of the fly tower in now in place (please excuse the reflection of fingers).

24 February 2025 - final stages of the fly tower's cladding being added.

25 February 2025 - fly tower is clad on three sides.
