Amidst the hum of machinery and the buzz of construction, the Waikato Regional Theatre is steadily evolving into a cultural landmark.

In recent weeks, our attention has been riveted to the beating heart of our new Theatre - its stage.

Here’s the latest scoop on our construction progress.

Expanding the Footprint: We’ve outlined the entire floor with steel and poured most of the concrete floors. This milestone offers us the first tangible sense of the building's magnitude and grandeur.

Raising the Auditorium: Structural steel is now being installed in the auditorium, adding vertical depth and sketching the outline of where our audience will be in relation to the stage. It’s the first glimpse of the Theatre’s spatial dynamics taking shape.

Stage concrete: The concrete for the stage has been meticulously poured and is now fully cured. This central foundational element symbolises the epicentre of artistic expression, where stories will unfold, emotions will resonate, and performers will take flight.

Here below are photos of the Theatre's stage from several angles taken a couple of weeks ago by Mark Hamilton - it is that square of black polythene with a portal in its centre and the orchestra pit in front of it.

The stage is set, quite literally now, for a new era of live performance in the Waikato, and we can’t wait to unveil it.

Meanwhile, we are rigorously evaluating and refining our operating model to ensure a sustainable, positive impact on the community and the local entertainment scene.

Exciting partnerships are on the horizon, and a plethora of performers are eagerly awaiting their chance to grace our new stage.

Stay tuned!
