Local performers quizzed for the Theatre

Published on 14 Aug 2022

In mid-July the Share the Stage Performers Quiz Night was held at The Meteor, as both a fun small-scale fundraiser and as a mobilisation event to get local performing arts groups involved in ‘building the buzz’ for the new Theatre over the next couple of years.

It was a smash success, with many commenting during and after that it was a rare gathering of such a diverse range of performers and that all of them are excited by the prospect of our new riverside CBD performing arts centre.

Twenty-one teams, including break dancers, brass band players, actors, Pasifika performers, rock musicians, choristers, street theatre practitioners and stage technicians, to name a few, answered four rounds of questions – Performing arts of the world, Aotearoa-New Zealand and Kirikiriroa-Hamilton/Waikato, plus a Hamilton general knowledge.

The winners were the ‘Leftbank Theatre Veterans Association’, an informal grouping of some of the city’s long-standing theatre types, with second place going to The Meteor team and third a draw between the Free Lunch Street Theatre Company and Wintec Media Arts.

Many are keen to further support the Share the Stage effort, so look out for future public Share the Stage events from some of the region’s best talents.
